Counseling Style & Influences:
There are numerous theories of human behavior and the psychology of the mind; and there are just as many techniques used in treating mental health problems. For a therapist to lock himself/herself into one specific mode of thinking and to use only a handful of techniques in treatment would be close-minded, unimaginitive, and detrimental to the client(s) being served. I have discovered that a multi-dimensional approach to treatment can be more efficient and effective. How I assess the problem and which techniques I will use to empower the client in solving the problem depend on a number of factors; including what the presenting problem is, the way the client presents that problem, the client's personality, the client's desires, the dynamics of my interactions with the client, and the determined severity or lethality of the problem.
This is not to say that one should not be influenced or specialize in a certain theoretical framework or therapeutic techniques. Like everyone else, I have my influences and partialities, and they are as follows:
Client Centered Therpy - Carl Rogers
Rational Emotive Therapy (RET) - Albert Ellis
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - Aaron Beck
